The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) announced a grant program for the purpose of remediating identified sources of lead in drinking water in schools and licensed childcare settings. Examples of eligible grant activities supported include:
- removing or replacing drinking water fixtures, fountains, or outlets
- replacing plumbing materials that contain lead
- installing automatic flushing devices to reduce stagnation of drinking water which may allow lead levels to build up
MDH will prioritize funding to projects that demonstrate the need for remediating sources of lead in drinking water. View grant application materials here.
Grant funds must be used to address sources of lead contamination in identified facilities including, but not limited to, service connections and premise or building plumbing, and to implement best practices for water management within the building. The application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on January 12, 2024.
