Municipalities in all 50 states have access to low-interest funding for projects that improve water quality or improve wastewater infrastructure. Clean Water / Water Pollution Control State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs have provided more than $5 billion annually in recent years for wastewater treatment, nonpoint source pollution control, and watershed and estuary management.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) website, an average Clean Water SRF loan interest rate is 2.2 percent, compared to market rates that average 4.5 percent. SRF programs partner with banks, nonprofits, local governments, and other federal and state agencies to provide the best water quality financing source for their communities.
