It’s time again to collect information for the annual North Central Utility Rate Survey. Each year, AE2S conducts a survey of water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste utility rates throughout the region. Two unique reports are prepared based on community population. One is for communities with populations of 1,000 to 4,999 and Regional/Rural Water Systems. The second is for communities with populations of 5,000 and higher.
AE2S conducts the survey each year as a planning resource for communities throughout the region, and to provide support for ongoing revenue adequacy, cost of service, and utility rate planning analyses. Rate survey participants routinely indicate that the survey report is an invaluable tool for utility and finance managers to use when discussing utility rates with policy makers and constituents.
This year, we are pleased to offer an online option for completion of the rate survey! For systems that participated in the survey in 2012, data from last year will be pre-populated for review, verification, and revision. To streamline data collection and avoid duplication, we recommend that the utility departments (water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste) from each community coordinate to complete the survey under one username and password. However, multiple registrations can be completed for a community, if necessary.
Participants should receive the questionnaire via email or in the mail during the last week of February, or the first week of March. All communities that return the questionnaires will receive complimentary copies of the completed 2013 North Central Utility Rate Survey this summer. The deadline for submitting the survey is March 21, 2013. We thank you advance for your participation and look forward to assembling the most current rate information in our region for your use in managing your utilities.
